Colt Model 1902 Sporting .38 ACP - Rimless Smokeless

The Colt Model 1902 Sporting .38 ACP is actually a continuation of the Model 1900 with some minor modifications.  First, the extra milling steps associated with the removal of the sight safety from the Model 1900 were eliminated, saving both time and cost of production.

There were no major mechanical variations within this model, but there were variations in external features such as the placement of the slide serrations and the availability of the high spur hammer (a carry-over from the Model 1900) to the rounded hammer that was also present on the earliest Model 1902 Military .38 ACP, Model 1903 Pocket Hammer .38 ACP and Model 1905 .45 ACP.

With the exception of models ordered with special order grips, Colt’s shipped the majority of these models with molded black hard rubber grips.

The Model  1902 Sporting .38 ACP was manufactured from 1902 until 1907 with just under 7,000 pistols manufactured.

The Photos and Information link above will provide you with photos and descriptions of some of the other unique characteristics of these early Colt pistols.
